mise en scene picture

This picture is taken form the film mr. and mrs. smith starring angelina jolie and brad pitt. i chose this picture because it shows good use of mise en scene. One of the main props used in this image is rubble, the use of this prop signifies to the audience that there has been an explosion. Fire is still burning showing us that the explosion was recent. The costumes of the characters are casual, their in white to make them stand out and show audience that they are the protagonists and still dominant. they look as if they where in the middle of getting ready or changing their clothes also indicating to us that this could have been their house and that they must have been inside it when this esplosion occured. Both of their facial expressions show us they are in shock and disbelief. The space within this scene is quite open but at the same time the characters are very close together suggesting that they are surrounded by destruction and chaos. the lighting in this scene is bright and misty from the smoke from the flames.

Preliminary task

This is a preliminary task that i did alongside Nicole, Rebbecca and Rayna. Our clip is about a teacher who is being stalked by the ghost of a girl who she used to bully when she was in school. none of us have really worked on filming a sequence before so it was a challenge to all of us and we never knew what to expect from it all. we took turns in filming various shots and sharing ideas, we worked very well together and we now all have more stronger knowledge and understanding of how to film a sequence. however during the editing process we found it quite difficult none of us have used imovie before so it was a bit of a struggle. the main difficulties i had when editing my clip was that it was to cut each shot down enough so that they could flow into each other without making them all look as if i just jump cuts. if i could have another chance to improve this sequence i would try to finish on time and make sure that i add things like transitions and sound effects to it because when watching this back you can tell that it hasn't been properly been looked at during the editing stage. there a plenty of mistakes and continuity errors that need to be corrected for example at 2:41 there's a lady standing in the back ground and then a few seconds later she has disappeared. also the lighting was quite poor from about 1:10 and onwards. on the whole i think that our thriller sequence is ok for a first attempt. the things that i enjoyed most was actually filming the scenes because i got to share some of my ideas and opinions with my group and experiment with cinematography and i also enjoyed adding the sound track to my work because i like the fact that i got to play around with the music a cut and copy different parts to make it fit in with the sequence the way i wanted it too.
